  • AFL extends Commissioner Jerry Kurz' contract for 2011 season
    Commissioner Jerry B. Kurz will be heading the Arena Football League in 2011 following an extension of his contract, the league announced today. It will be Kurz’ second year as AFL commissioner and 25th with the Arena Football Family.
  • Philadelphia Soul assigned Mike Hohensee as Head Coach
    The Philadelphia Soul today announced that they have been assigned Arena Football League coaching legend Mike Hohensee as the head coach in 2011 by the League Office. Per team and league policy, terms were not disclosed.
  • AFL MOVES TO 18-GAME REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE FOR 2011
    The 2011 Arena Football League regular season has been extended from 16 games to 18, Commissioner Jerry Kurz announced today. The league will consist of 19 teams and each will play 18 regular season games, with the option of two preseason games (one home and one away). The change was passed in an ownership vote last week during the league’s Board of Directors meeting in Phoenix, AZ.

The Storm and the Shock went into the ArenaBowl with similar regular season statistics, but the Shock proved to be the offensive powerhouse in the first matchup of the two franchises in league history.
  • Tampa Bay Storm face Spokane Shock in ArenaBowl XXIII
    With the best record in the Arena Football League, the Spokane Shock earned the right to host ArenaBowl XXIII, sponsored by NAPA, at home on Spokane Tribe Field this Friday, August 20 at 8 p.m. on the NFL Network. The Shock will host the Tampa Bay Storm, the most successful franchise in Arena football history.
  • League announces First and Second All-Arena Teams
    The first and second All-Arena teams have been released, the league office announced today. The positions were voted on by coaches, media and fans, with several unanimous selections including Tulsa’s Gabe Nyenhuis and Arizona’s Rod Windsor.
  • Arizona's Rod Windsor named Spalding Rookie of the Year
    Arizona wide receiver Rod Windsor has been named the 2010 Spalding Rookie of the Year, the league office announced today. Windsor was a team and league leader across the board for receiving throughout the season, breaking rookie records and setting the trend as the best receiver in the league.
  • Tulsa's Gabe Nyenhuis awarded Riddell Defensive Player of the Year
    Tulsa Talons' defensive lineman Gabe Nyenhuis has been awarded the 2010 Defensive Player of the Year. Nyenhuis pressured quarterbacks all season long, threatening the offensive linemen who couldn’t hold back the 270 pound, 6-foot-3 player.
  • Milwaukee's Chris Greisen awarded Russell Offensive Player of the Year
    Milwaukee Iron’s quarterback Chris Greisen has been named the 2010 Offensive Player of the Year, the league announce today. Greisen has proven himself as an outstanding quarterback with a reliable arm for the Iron. Greisen shattered passing statistics all season long, leading the AFL quarterbacks in every category.
  • Jacksonville's Les Moss awarded UBU Sports Head Coach of the Year
    Jacksonville Sharks’ Les Moss is awarded 2010 Head Coach of the Year, the league office announced today. Moss led the Sharks to a 12-5 record and a postseason appearance in the franchise’s inaugural season. Moss’s 21 years of coaching experience has given the team the guidance they needed for a successful season.
